New owners of Beckworth Emporium promise to ‘keep the heart beating strongly’ at popular garden centre.
Blue Diamond said they would build on Beckworth Emporium’s ‘great food and catering experience’ and are introducing a new clothing department.
Arguably Northamptonshire’s best-loved garden centre has been sold to one of the largest garden centre groups in the UK. Its new owner has reassured customers that they will “make it my mission” to keep the centre’s heart beating strongly.”
Beckworth Emporium, located in Mears Ashby near Northampton and the A14, is a popular destination for its glasshouse restaurant and food hall. It recently registered a a total annual turnover of £9.3 million.
It was announced that owner and creator David Brown had sold the beloved garden centre to Blue Diamond Garden and Living Centres last week. The company, which turned over a total revenue of £255 million in 2021, already owned 42 garden centres across the UK.
Much of Beckworth’s profits (60 per cent) come from its restaurant and food sales, with £3.5m being made on catering alone last year. Blue Diamond said it will “build upon the great food and catering experience at Beckworth which fits exactly the Blue Diamond target demographic”.
Managing director Alan Roper said they will “significantly grow the horticultural and gardening sales” while developing on the food hall and restaurant. A Blue Diamond clothing department will also be added to the centre next year.
Mr Roper continued: “Despite the challenges faced when buying a business built on an owners (David Brown’s) passion, I will make it my mission to keep the heart that makes Beckworth a unique and very special business beating strongly.” Beckworth was the first of two buyouts for Blue Diamond in 2023, the company said on its website. The second has yet to be announced. The amount exchanged for the garden centre is undisclosed.
